A few months ago Page introduced me to a new television series. We both find movies and television shows about Washington and government intriguing, so when he found Madame Secretary, he thought I would enjoy it. Due to the fact that we watch very little t.v., we do not start watching most shows until they are 2-3 seasons in. Thankfully we have Netflix.
Back to my point, Page thought I would really enjoy this show so I started watching with him. He was already into the second season by the time I started watching. As I was watching I realized I was missing much of the story line because I had not watched the show from the beginning. There were characters that were being referenced that I didn't know. Characters were growing and developing, but I was missing the significance. Problems were being solved, but I didn't know there were problems. Victories were being won, but I didn't know there was even a struggle. I realized I wanted to see where it all started. I wanted to understand the full significance of the stories and characters. I wanted to experience the show fully. So what did I do? I of course stopped watching the middle and went back to the beginning.
As I thought back over my Madame President situation, the Father prompted me to think about the fact that was as a Mosaic family find ourselves in the middle of a story, God's story. To many this story is very familiar. To others its brand new. Many of us know parts of the story very well but other parts are less known. I began to realize the need for us as a family to start from the beginning of the story line. We need to understand the significance of our present situations by being aware of what God has done in the past. We can't fully understand the characters in the New Testament until we understand the characters of the Old Testament. God is the same yesterday, today, and forever. So reminding ourselves of His character seen in scripture is extremely important to our ability to believe the faithfulness of His character today.
So what do we do? We go back to the very beginning. We start back in Genesis to better understand God's story. Hopefully by now you have heard about our Mosaic Family Bible Reading Plan that we will be using as a part of our Community Groups. We are so excited about experiencing the reading of God's story together as a family. Remember: Intimacy is Shared Experiences. Part of deepening our intimacy with one another is to read Scripture together. This reading will have the added benefit of deepening our intimacy with the Elohim (Father, Son, & Holy Spirit) too!
Are you excited!! I'm pumped! Your community group facilitators are excited too. We are praying as leadership, staff, community group facilitators and as a church family for our upcoming year of shared experiences. 2018 is going to be an amazing year! You're not going to want to miss out!
